My bank had to cancel my card twice this year a d send me a new one. Charter Fitness is on auto-pay and was rejected for payment. When a new card was presented, I was charged a late fee on $15 each occurrence. One would think the late fee would be waved due to the circumstances. There was no consideration.

Set to collections for their negligence

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I cancelled my membership 10 months ago. I went into the countryside location and cancelled in person, in writing, and also verbally confirmed with staff that my membership was cancelled.

Flash forward, yesterday, I received a call from collections with a amount of 145 dollars. I have not had any communication with Charter- no email, phone calls, or postal mail. Just this call from a law office stating I must pay 145 dollars or they will report this and it will be on my credit. I called countryside to sort this misunderstanding out I was redirected to the business office/billing where they told me that my membership was still active and that they couldnt discuss anything pertaining to my account until I settled my collections.

They also told me that they could NOT cancel my membership until I paid collections. The law office handling the collection claim essentially told me that they also didnt have any information about why my account wasnt cancelled but that they have a zero negotiation policy and needed that 145 or they would report this to my credit. Disgusting. Charter Fitness really created a huge mess!

Theyre so disorganized and negligent! and whatever tactic this is is really just uncalled for!

I ended up paying the 145 because Ive worked so very hard to build my credit and am in the process of buying a house and really didnt want to risk this tarnishing my credit. But now Im being told that I may have to also pay a fee to actually cancel my membership.

Membership Cancellation

I've been trying to cancel my membership and the hoops you have to go through is outright ridiculous. I've been a member for 9 years and yet I still have to submit a certified letter and wait 30 days and then it MIGHT be canceled. They're policies are ridiculous, never join this establishment!

Terrible gym conditions

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Charter fitness has been harassing members that use the facilities a lot. Evidently What they want is for people to join and then not show up. When a machine breaks it stays broken, when lockers break they stay broken, showers dont work right. Live in shower room. The club is a mess

Poor management, dirty club with broken machines

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After being at Charter for 4 years I complained to staff about lice in the shower, cold showers, broken lockers, broken workout equipment. And them sending women into the mens locker room to clean I sent this to them and pissed off consumer but I never heard anything back. Goes to show how much they care. I am happy at my new club. You would think that charter fitness would try harder with all the club competition around but they are that stupid

The charter fitness in Alsip is run so poorly Im surprised they have any business. The parking is terrible, machines are constantly broken, cold showers, lice, and a staff that is ignorant and constantly changing. With a plethora of competition within one mile you would think they would wise up. I can sum them up in one work ...STUPID just plain STUPID

Volatile customer service

After being a member of Charter fitness along with all my family members for several years I noticed their attitude changing towards me. They dont like people using the club as they lose money on regulars. The whole business model is to sign people up and hope they dont come, 80% dont come back after the first month. Mid level club management changed and they were ignorant to the regulars. I think they wanted us gone so they could increase profit

Dear Bot: I sent in a complaint in regards to Charter fitness. I received an email from pissedconsumer the other day asking me if I had heard from Charter fitness in regards to it.
