Verified Reviewer | Countryside, IllinoisSet to collections for their negligence
I cancelled my membership 10 months ago. I went into the countryside location and cancelled in person, in writing, and also verbally confirmed with staff that my membership was cancelled.
Flash forward, yesterday, I received a call from collections with a amount of 145 dollars. I have not had any communication with Charter- no email, phone calls, or postal mail. Just this call from a law office stating I must pay 145 dollars or they will report this and it will be on my credit. I called countryside to sort this misunderstanding out I was redirected to the business office/billing where they told me that my membership was still active and that they couldnt discuss anything pertaining to my account until I settled my collections.
They also told me that they could NOT cancel my membership until I paid collections. The law office handling the collection claim essentially told me that they also didnt have any information about why my account wasnt cancelled but that they have a zero negotiation policy and needed that 145 or they would report this to my credit. Disgusting. Charter Fitness really created a huge mess!
Theyre so disorganized and negligent! and whatever tactic this is is really just uncalled for!
I ended up paying the 145 because Ive worked so very hard to build my credit and am in the process of buying a house and really didnt want to risk this tarnishing my credit. But now Im being told that I may have to also pay a fee to actually cancel my membership.
- Could negligently destroy your credit
